Assertive roasted malts come forward first but are kept in check by hints of raisin, baker’s chocolate, and hints of coffee. Brown sugar was added to boost the ABV and still keep the body light enough for easy drinking. A nod to a 19th century, dark ale built around English troops wanting dark beer in warmer climates.
